The Birth of a Notion

Bringing the F&I Providers and Administrators Association (FIPAA) into being was a little like mating elephants: things happened at a very high level, there was a lot of grunting and snorting, and it took two years to get results. But on September 27, 2011 FIPAA was born in Las Vegas, weighing in at a healthy 2,917 pounds. Actually, that is the cumulative weight of the Advisory Council, which is a fine place to begin this story.

The Advisory Council is the body that steers the Association and advises the Board of Directors.  The Council met for the first time during the Industry Summit at the invitation of the Board of Directors – David Gesualdo, Adam Kimber, and me.

Certifiably Sane – Buying a CPO is Just Plain Smart. Here's Why:

From Certified Pre-owned Vehicles, a special advertising feature of the Los Angeles Times – June 15, 2011:

Anyone who still has doubts about purchasing a certified pre-owned vehicle should check out these 10 compelling reasons to consider CPO:

1. Nearly New Cars at Used-Car Prices. It’s common knowledge that a new car loses a large percentage of its value the second it’s driven off the lot. But CPO vehicles have already taken that financial hit — without losing much of their new-car feel. “The vehicles eligible for certification are relatively new models,” said Ron Montoya, a consumer advice associate at Edmunds.com.

2. Thorough Inspections. Before they’re put up for sale, CPO vehicles undergo a detailed inspection that’s far more thorough than those given to non-CPO cars or trucks — along with any needed reconditioning. This includes under the hood, under the vehicle, the exterior and interior, luggage compartment and safety/security features. Major issues are repaired using factory parts and components. Finally, they’re taken for a road test. “This adds a sense of security that the car has passed an extensive and rigorous inspection of its mechanical functions,” said Kyle Reese, NIADA Certified Dealer Recruiter for NAC.

NIADA Certified Program Now Available to OIADA Members!

Executive Director, Marc Huchette Announces Availability of NIADA's Certified Pre-Owned Program for OIADA Members

I’m very excited to tell you about NIADA’s new Certified Pre-Owned program that is available to our dealers. I recently interviewed NIADA on this great new CPO program for our dealers.

1) Tell me briefly about the CPO program that NIADA has developed for our members? NIADA sought a program that allowed their membership to compete in the certified marketplace. After much due-diligence, NIADA selected NAC as their administrator. This is significant for a couple of reasons. First, NAC has been around more than 25 years and has a solid reputation for service and a foundationally strong financial position. Second, NAC provides a Contractual Liability Insurance Policy (CLIP) to each enrolled dealer. This policy assures the dealer of zero financial responsibility in the event anything ever happens to the program or administrator.

NIADA/NAC Certified Program GROWS WITH NEW Partnerships

To give independent dealers the ability to compete with franchise dealers offering manufacturer certified pre-owned vehicles, NIADA and NAC (formerly National Auto Care) last year created NIADA Certified. The program includes comprehensive 12-month, 12,000-mile warranty coverage with no deductible, 24-hour roadside assistance, towing, rental and more.

In November 2010, the program underwent significant changes to incorporate more value for dealers and even higher satisfaction for customers.

NIADA Certified added additional team members experienced in the used vehicle market to ensure processes were put in place that would support dealer certified success. Today, the program is supported by an active training calendar and includes contributions from strategic partners as well as best practice reviews.
